TSU participates in the CHED Higher Education Delegation in Canada

In its commitment to world-class and globally competitive education, Tarlac State University, along with five SUCs from the country, participated in the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Universities Canada for the Higher Education Delegation – High-Level Visit to Ottawa and Toronto, Canada from March 25 to April 5, 2022.

In its commitment to world-class and globally competitive education, Tarlac State University, along with five SUCs from the country, participated in the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Universities Canada for the Higher Education Delegation – High-Level Visit to Ottawa and Toronto, Canada from March 25 to April 5, 2022.

The Higher Education Delegation – High-Level Visit was initiated in adherence to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on higher education cooperation between the Philippines and the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) last February 3, 2020.

On behalf of CHED, Chairman J. Prospero De Vera signed Joint Statements on Cooperation in Higher Education with Universities Canada and Colleges and Institutes Canada (CIC). In contrast, the heads and representatives of Philippine universities and colleges signed Letters of Intent with the same organizations, signaling their commitment to support and implement the various programs that would develop from their upcoming initiatives last March 29, 2022, in Ottawa, Canada. The Letter of Intent that was signed focused on the following areas of cooperation, namely:

  • Increasing the two-way student mobility between Canada and the Philippines;
  • Collaboration on Indigenous Peoples' education and exchanges;
  • Promotion of research cooperation aligned to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
  • Advancement of cultural and academic collaboration and partnerships; and
  • Professional development of the Philippines’ higher education faculty and staff.

Tarlac State University was represented by Vice President for Administration and Finance, Dr. Marlon V. Gamido, and the Director of the International Affairs and Linkages, Dr. Jasper Jay N. Mendoza. Other SUCs that participated in the High-Level Visit include representatives from the Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U), Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU), and West Visayas University (WVSU).
